abstract = "Abstract. The desertification is a phenomenon that threatens to
the biodiversity being the causes linked to the actions antropics
where include the agricultural expansion, use inadequate of the
soil, overgraze, burned, deforestation and populations
concentrations, provoking environmental, social and economic
changes. The present work objectified an analysis multitemporal of
the vegetable covering of the municipal district of Cedro in the
interior from Pernambuco through the supervised of the images
classification, tends as base the years of 1986 and 2001.As result
was observed for the year of 2001 in relation to 1986 a reduction
of the vegetation of arboreal caatinga of 5,35% and in the shrub
caatinga in 14,45% caused mainly by the wood extraction for
firewood, coal and pasture area in the studied years. Reduction
was also verified in the gallery forest in 0,6% that it was
occupied by agricultural cultivations and in the category water in
0,26% indicating a drastic decrease of the capacity of storage of
the dams of the area.",
